Girls volleyball comes from behind to down Berea-Midpark in four sets
Host Avon dropped the first set but came roaring back to win the next three, handing Berea-Midpark its first Southwestern Conference loss of the season in a 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-9 victory for the Eagles.
Avon, 5-1 overall and 3-0 in SWC play, was led by senior Peyton Reinart with 13 kills and three solo blocks and sophomore Ellie Husk with 12 kills and 18 digs. Playing without leading hitter Clare Freaney, the Eagles demonstrated their overall depth, as five different players had at least six kills. Julia Majerus chipped in with nine kills, while Kara Hricovec added seven and freshman Lucy Lee had six kills and four solo blocks.
Avon had seven aces in the match, with Addy Smith leading the way with four, followed by freshman Maryn Maxey with three. In addition, Madison Demmerle led the team with 23 assists.
The Eagles will continue their quest to repeat at SWC champions when they travel to Midview on Thursday.
