Girls volleyball sweeps past Elyria, 25-6, 25-4, 25-10
After being plagued by inconsistent play recently, Avon’s young volleyball team was nearly perfect against visiting Elyria Thursday, making just one hitting error in 64 attempts on the way to sweeping the Pioneers, 3-0. The set scores were 25-6, 25-4 and 25-10.
Sophomore Clare Freaney led the hitting parade with 16 kills, followed by Peyton Reinart with seven kills and Julia Majerus with six. Junior libero Ally Brediger led the team with 11 digs and four aces, as the Eagles had 14 aces as a team. In addition, junior Lauren Bauer had 11 assists and three aces and Freaney had two blocks.
Avon, 7-3 overall and 5-2 in Southwestern Conference action, plays at North Ridgeville on Tuesday before facing consecutive matches against Olmsted Falls and Amherst. The Eagles are currently tied for second place in the SWC with Amherst, one game behind Olmsted Falls.
