Volleyball team splits tri-match with Oregon Clay and Akron Hoban
Avon’s girls volleyball team split a tri-match Saturday, sweeping past Oregon Clay by the scores of 25-10 and 25-21 but falling to Akron Hoban, 22-25, 25-27. The Eagles are now 4-1 on the season.
Playing without sophomore Clare Freaney, who is the team’s leading hitter but was injured in Thursday’s match against Olmsted Falls, Avon was led by sophomore Ellie Husk, who topped the team with seven kills in each of the two matches. She was backed by Peyton Reinart with five kills against Clay, while Julia Majerus and Lucy Lee each added four kills against Hoban, which was a state semifinalist last year in Division III.
Ally Brediger topped the Eagles with seven digs in each match, while Madison Demmerle had 11 assists against Clay and 10 against Hoban.
Next on the schedule for Avon is a home Southwestern Conference match Tuesday versus Berea-Midpark.
