Will Conley nets six goals as Eagles roll past Boardman, 17-3

Junior Will Conley continued his recent scoring spree, netting six goals Wednesday as host Avon opened the Division I, Region 2 postseason tournament with a 17-3 victory over Boardman. Conley has scored 11 goals in Avon’s last two games.

Avon, which won its sixth consecutive game in raising its record to 12-3, left little doubt as to who would win against Boardman, scoring three goals in the first 3 minutes. By the end of the first quarter the Eagles were ahead, 8-0, and they netted 10 goals before the Spartans scored their first.

Conley was backed by Evan Juergens with four goals, Fin Jerdonek, Jude Theibert and Jackson Brokaw with two each, and Reese O’Reilly with one. Theibert’s goal early in the third quarter gave Avon a 13-1 lead, starting a running clock that continued for the rest of the game.

The Eagles will be back at home on Monday for a second-round game against Strongsville. The teams opened the season on March 17 with Avon taking an 11-8 decision. Avon is the ninth seed in the tournament while the Mustangs are seeded 12th.
