Bay High School Rockets Fall to Rocky River Pirates in Close Contest

Ben Boka | Bay High School | May 15, 2025

In a regular season conference baseball game, the Bay High School Rockets suffered a narrow defeat against the Rocky River Pirates with a final score of 3-1 on May 14, 2025. The game, which took place at Rocky River under the sunny afternoon skies with a mild breeze, saw limited scoring, influenced perhaps by the defensive plays and strategic pitching. The lone run for the Rockets came in the fifth inning thanks to Trevor Ormsby, who got things going in the fifth inning. Chase Prudhoe, who batted Ormsby in in the fifth, was also a key contributor to the Rocket offense this afternoon. Their efforts, however, were not enough to secure a win against the Pirates. The performance of starting pitcher, Travis Ropelewski was notable. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and only 2 earned runs while striking out 6 batters without any walks. Ropelewski kept the Rockets within striking distance the whole game. Additional highlights include Chase Prudhoe going 1 for 2 at bat with an RBI, Jackson Ziemnik batting 1 for 3, and Trevor Ormsby 1 for 2. Despite the strong individual performances and strategic play, the Rockets could not overcome the early leads established by Rocky River. As the Rockets prepare for their next encounter against the Chardon Hilltoppers on May 17, 2025, at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio, they look to improve their current record of 8-13. This upcoming game is anticipated to be a crucial one for the Rockets as they aim to amend their season standing.
