Bay Rockets Baseball broke the game open with a seven-run second inning and went on to a 15-4 win over Chester SC on Friday at 4900 Socastee Blvd in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Rockets opened the game scoring four runs ignited by a three run home run by senior Johnny Veverka, but the Cyclones answered scoring three runs in the bottom of the first.
The decisive stretch came in the top of the second, when Bay sent a wave of hitters through the lineup and turned an early deficit into a comfortable lead. Will Schrock and Patrick Cleary both homered in the inning, part of a three-homer day for the Rockets.
Schrock delivered Bay’s most complete performance of the day. The right-hander went all five innings, allowing three hits and four runs, with only two earned, while striking out nine and walking three. He earned his first win of the season and also starred at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Bay’s lineup produced contributions throughout the order. Trevor Ormsby went 2 for 3 with a double, Ethan Sedivec finished 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI, Chase Prudhoe was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Travis Ropelewski added two hits in three at-bats. Ryan Rothman went 1 for 2 with an RBI, while Cleary finished 1 for 2 with his two-run homer. Veverka went 1 for 1 and made his lone hit count with the first-inning three-run shot.
The Rockets’ response after the opening inning defined the game. Chester’s three-run burst could have put Bay on its heels, but the Rockets answered with force, piling up seven runs in the second and continuing to add on behind steady at-bats and Schrock’s command on the mound. In a game filled with loud contact and multiple-hit performances, Bay paired power with enough pitching to close out a convincing victory.
Played under clear skies with temperatures around 70 degrees, the win gave Bay a strong showing away from home and a standout performance from Schrock on both sides of the ball. His complete-game effort, capped by nine strikeouts and a home run, set the tone as the Rockets finished with 15 runs on a productive afternoon at the plate.
