Bay Varsity Rockets Soar to Victory Over Lorain Titans in Softball Showdown
In a high-scoring affair at Campana Park, the Bay High School Varsity Rockets claimed a decisive 31-18 victory over the Lorain Titans in a regular season non-conference softball game on March 29, 2025. The game was played under overcast skies with a warm temperature of 60 degrees. Driving the Rockets' offensive powerhouse were several key players. Julia Mavis stood out with an impressive five hits in six at-bats, while Maeve McFarland contributed significantly with an inside the park home run. Additionally, Ava Bottone snagged a triple that sent the ball sailing to left field. Collectively, the team saw notable RBI contributions from Mavis who drive in four runs, Lizzie McFarland and Cam Williams each with three RBIs, and Katie Sommers with two. The highlight of the game came in the sixth inning when the Rockets batted around, scoring a remarkable 13 runs to secure their lead. Starting pitcher Katie Sommers delivered a solid performance to help her team clinch their first victory of the season, bringing their record to 1-1. The Rockets are slated to face Lakewood in their next match-up on April 1, 2025, at Lakewood, hoping to build on their recent success and carry forward the momentum from this impressive win.
