Lakewood Baseball scored in the first inning and never gave the lead back Monday night, defeating Bay 2-0 in a conference game. The decisive stretch came early, when D. Jones helped the Rangers move in front 1-0 in the opening inning, and Bay could not break through despite finishing with more hits.

The Rockets stayed within striking distance behind a steady outing from starter Will Schrock. Schrock worked five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits, striking out six and walking three. Bay's author-supplied game notes reflected how slim the margin was, with the Rangers' first-inning run holding up until the sixth, when Lakewood pushed across its only insurance run. Ben Schrock then gave the Rockets two scoreless innings in relief to keep the deficit at two.

Bay collected five hits but could not find the timely swing against Lakewood starter J. Comer and reliever R. Verderber. Comer threw five scoreless innings, allowing five hits with one walk and four strikeouts, and Verderber closed out the final two innings without allowing a run. The Rockets left seven runners on base, while Lakewood stranded six.

Chase Prudhoe led Bay's lineup by going 2-for-3. Trevor Ormsby, Jack McManamon and George Benko each added a hit as the Rockets out-hit the Rangers 5-3. Bay also played a clean defensive game and finished without an error, compared with one for Lakewood.

Lakewood added its second run in the top of the sixth, with L. Legato credited with the RBI that made it 2-0. That extra run proved important in a game where every scoring chance carried weight. Bay's pitching staff limited the Rangers to three hits and kept the game close throughout, but the early run and the sixth-inning insurance score were enough to decide it.
