Strongsville rallies late to edge Bay Girls Lacrosse 11-10 in sudden-death overtime
Bay Girls Lacrosse let a late lead slip away Monday night as Strongsville scored in the final two minutes to force a 10-10 tie, then won 11-10 in sudden-death overtime matchup against the Rockets.
The Rockets controlled much of the evening and had the offense to put themselves in position for a win. Layla Meaux turned in the standout performance for Bay with six goals and one assist, accounting for seven of the team’s scoring plays. Hadley Clark added two goals, while Jill Tennant and Avery Schriner each scored once. Clover Pierce contributed an assist as Bay built and protected its lead for most of regulation.
Bay’s attack generated enough chances to stay in front deep into the match, but Strongsville’s late push changed the result. After trailing for most of the game, the Mustangs found the equalizer in the closing two minutes, erasing the Rockets’ advantage and sending the contest to overtime tied at 10. Strongsville then delivered the decisive goal in sudden death.
Sophia Crimaldi made four saves in goal for the Rockets and helped Bay withstand pressure for long stretches. The defensive effort, combined with Meaux’s big night on the attacking end, gave Bay a chance to finish off the result before Strongsville’s final surge.
Bay moves on after a difficult finish, with the narrow margin underscored by a game it led until the final minutes. For most of the night, the Rockets had the upper hand. The last turn came when Strongsville tied it at 10-10 late in regulation and ended it with the overtime winner.
