Buckeye boys top Rocky River 87-49 in CWC dual meet

Buckeye’s boys track and field team posted an 87-49 win over Rocky River on Wednesday in a CWC dual meet at Rocky River, piling up victories across the track and in the field events. The Bucks were led by a string of first-place finishes, including sprint, distance, hurdle, jump and relay wins that helped set the tone in the team result.

Brayden Bonnett turned in one of the meet’s top all-around performances for Buckeye. He won the 100-meter dash in 10.9 seconds and added another first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 2.5 inches. Brady Salazar also delivered a strong day on the track, taking first in the 400 meters in 50.9 seconds before later running on Buckeye’s winning 4x400 relay.

Buckeye picked up more points with Rhys Cielma’s victory in the 110 hurdles in 18.90 and Dimitry Pshonyak’s first-place run in the 3200 in 10:30.8. In the field events, Caden Fike cleared 11 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault, while Andy Kost captured the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches. Those efforts gave Buckeye balance throughout the lineup and helped the Bucks maintain control of the dual meet.

The closing relay added another highlight. Eddie Hondroudakis, Paul Abbott, Gavin Waibel and Salazar teamed up to win the 4x400 in 3:39, capping Buckeye’s day with another first-place finish. The result underscored the depth Buckeye showed from individual events into the relays.

The dual came with an unusual backdrop, as Rocky River did not have a full team because of spring break. Still, Buckeye made the most of the opportunity, collecting key event wins and turning them into a decisive team victory. For the Bucks, the meet offered an early-season sign of strength across multiple disciplines as the schedule moves forward.
