A short-handed Buckeye girls track and field team still found plenty to build on Sunday, scoring 15 points and finishing 11th out of 13 teams at the Spring Break meet at Newton Falls.

The top finish of the day came in the 4x100-meter relay, where Leah Bengough, Avery Lewandowski, Grace Pronik and Kylee Kash teamed up for third place in 55.12 seconds. In cold, wet conditions that included light rain showers and wind at Newton Falls, that relay effort gave the Bucks an early highlight and one of the meet's strongest performances.

Hayleigh Kreeger turned in a strong distance double for Buckeye. She placed seventh in the 800 meters in 2:50.61, then added a fifth-place finish in the 1600 in 6:14.41. Kreeger's two scoring races helped carry the Bucks against a full 13-team field and gave the lineup a steady presence in the longer events.

Brooke Posatiere also scored for Buckeye with a sixth-place run in the 400, finishing in 1:08.38. Between Posatiere's sprint result, Kreeger's distance points and the third-place relay finish, the Bucks made the most of a challenging day and continued to compete hard despite limited numbers.

For Buckeye, the meet was less about overall depth and more about making the most of each opportunity. The Bucks did that, collecting points in multiple events and showing competitive range from the sprints to the distance races.
