Buckeye girls place second at Midview Shipwreck Invitational

Buckeye’s girls track and field team turned in a runner-up finish Friday night at the Midview Shipwreck Invitational, scoring 96 points in a 12-team field at Midview High School in Grafton.
The Bucks battled rain and a deep field throughout the meet, then pieced together points across the track and field events to secure second place. Leah Bengough delivered Buckeye’s top finish, winning the pole vault at 10 feet. The victory gave the Bucks a first-place result in the field events and helped anchor the team score on a difficult night for conditions.
Buckeye also stacked up a series of runner-up performances. Sophia Regiec placed second in the 800 meters in 2:35.48, Blakely Herman was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.43, and Erin Salazar took second in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.76. Emma Bostic added another second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 6.75 inches, giving the Bucks scoring production in both the jumps and hurdle races.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Brooke Posatiere, Avery Lewandowski, Julia King and Regiec closed with a third-place finish in 4:40.63. The relay added to a balanced overall effort for Buckeye, which found points in multiple event groups while competing through wet weather.
The runner-up result offered another strong early-season showing for the Bucks, who combined an event win, several second-place finishes and a podium relay against invitational competition. On a rainy evening at Midview, Buckeye’s depth and consistency were enough to bring home second place.
