Buckeye’s girls turned in a strong night against one of the deepest fields they will see this season, scoring 51.5 points to finish seventh Friday at the Mentor Relays. In a 24-team meet loaded with competition, the Bucks delivered a standout mix of record-setting distance work, event titles in the field and valuable relay points.

Emily Goelz set a new school record in the girls 5,000 meters with a time of 25:15.57. Goelz’s run gave Buckeye another major milestone in a meet that rewarded toughness and depth, and it added a memorable highlight to a night that already featured several top finishes for the Bucks.

Buckeye also claimed a first-place finish in the pole vault relay, where Ellen Steppenbacker and Kyla Posatiere combined for the event title. Steppenbacker cleared 11 feet, 9 inches, while Posatiere added a 7-foot effort to secure the win. The Bucks added another field-event podium finish in the high jump relay, where Maddie Gillin and Julia King placed third. Gillin cleared 4-8 and King went 4-6 as Buckeye continued to pile up points across multiple events.

On the track, the 4x200 relay team of Erin Salazar, Julia King, Emma Bostic and Blakely Herman raced to fourth place in 1:52.31. The 4x800 relay of Sophia Regiec, Maycie Bodak, Lily Regiec and Hayleigh Kreeger also earned a fourth-place finish, posting a time of 11:10.05. Those efforts helped Buckeye stay in the upper half of the standings throughout a meet that tested every team’s depth.

Taken together, the results reflected a complete showing for the Buckeye girls. A seventh-place finish in a highly competitive Mentor Relays field offered another encouraging step for the Bucks, who left Mentor with a lot to be happy about.
