Buckeye rolls past Normandy, 90-47, on Senior Night behind relay wins and event depth
Buckeye High School Athletics turned Senior Night into a celebration Tuesday, powering past Normandy 90-47 in a dual meet at Buckeye High School. The Bucks set the tone with winning relay performances, sprint strength and field-event depth, putting together a decisive team effort that reflected the energy of the occasion.
Buckeye’s top finishers were spread across the track and field. The 4x800 relay team of Nick Rieth, Ben Naso, Isaiah Retterer-Siwicki and Brant Anderson opened with a victory in 9:36.71, and the boys 4x100 team of Lucas Balaban, Cam Landes, Joey Adams and Brayden Russo followed with another first-place finish in 47.24. The Bucks also closed strong in the 4x400, where Joey Adams, Paul Abbott, Nolan Rieth and Gavin Waibel won in 3:44.93.
In the sprints, Brayden Bonnet delivered a standout double for Buckeye, winning the 100-meter dash in 10.93 and the 200 in 22.52. Eddie Hondroudakis added a runner-up finish in the 100 at 11.11 and placed third in the 200 at 22.90, while Russo took third in the 100 with an 11.58. Rhys Cielma also had a strong night in the hurdles, winning the 300 hurdles in 46.48 after placing second in the 110 hurdles in 17.58. A.J. Bohannon gave the Bucks more points in the 110 hurdles with a third-place finish in 18.89.
Buckeye continued to score across the distance races and middle-distance events. Joe Stahl won the 3200 in 10:35.81, with Nick Rieth second in 11:54.08 and Vinny Joy third in 12:04 to complete a sweep of the event. John Galayda placed second in the 800 in 2:19.27, Andy Kost took second in the 400 in 59.02 and Alex Marconi was third in 1:00.71. Aiden Williamson added a third-place finish in the 1600 with a time of 6:28.21.
The field events were another major advantage for the Bucks. Caden Fike won the pole vault at 13 feet, Lucas Vasel cleared 12 feet for second and Stahl added third at 10 feet 6 inches. Andy Kost won the high jump at 5 feet 6 inches, with Cael Miller second and Brady Salazar third at the same height. In the throws, Jake Bally-Freiberg captured first in the discus with a mark of 143 feet 4.5 inches, just ahead of Denis Shevchenko, who was second at 142 feet 9.5 inches. Shevchenko then won the shot put with a throw of 42 feet 6 inches. Bonnet also contributed in the long jump with a second-place mark of 17 feet 7 inches.
It all added up to a strong all-around effort and a memorable Senior Night result for Buckeye. From relay victories to event sweeps and individual wins across the oval, runways and rings, the Bucks showed the kind of balance that can carry momentum deeper into the season.
