Elgin High School Comets Gear Up for 2025-2026 Varsity Boys Basketball Season
The Elgin High School Comets are set to begin the 2025-2026 varsity boys basketball season under the guidance of Coach McElroy, entering his third season. The Comets aim to improve upon their final record from the previous season of 5-18. The team has a series of challenging games scheduled, starting on the road against Northmor on November 26. This season includes notable games such as playing at Ohio Northern University against Ada on December 27, providing a unique experience for the team. Coach McElroy commented on the team's structure and goals: 'We are a young team overall, with only 4 returning letter winner from last year. We will look to build experience in our younger players, and rely on our veterans to help bring those young guys along. We hope to have a deeper rotation than in years past, and will strive to improve every day throughout the season.' The team will miss contributions from key players who graduated last year, including Nash Lust and Mitchell Askew, as well as Nate Freshour, who is unavailable due to injury. Returning players such as seniors Peyton Zempter, Landon French, Antonio Pineda, and Kolby Newman, along with juniors King Sayre and Gabe Williams, and sophomores Owen Creps, Braxtyn Seitter, and Caleb Holman, are expected to lead the squad through rigorous competitions.
