Elgin High School Comets Wrestling Team Gears Up for a Promising Season

Mike James | Elgin High School | Nov 5, 2025

Under the guidance of Coach Pasma, now entering his 9th season, Elgin High School's Boys Varsity Wrestling team is set to embark on a promising new season with a roster full of both seasoned wrestlers and emerging talents. Last season, the Comets achieved remarkable success, clinching the Elgin Comet Classic, North Union, and Utica tournaments. They also secured their fourth Conference Championship and third Section Championship, along with being the Regional Dual Meet Champions. Notable achievements included a 7th place finish in the State Dual Team competition and a 14th place in the State Tournament. Standout wrestler Quentin Harrison was the state runner-up, while Cooper Schlaegel placed third at state. However, this season the team faces the challenge of replacing key members who graduated, including Quentin Harrison, Tyler Pasma, Colton Long, Gavin Rhodes, and John Willis. Returning to fill these gaps are Adney Pasma, Aiden Cervantes, Cooper Schlaegel, Landon Shrader, Gavin Luikart, Finn VanGundy, Jack VanGundy, Henry Greenleaf, Archer Johnston, Brennon Luikart, Cooper Lykins, Stone Rhoades, and Brysen Labounty, who are expected to lead the team with their skills and experience. The season's schedule is packed with important events, starting on December 6th at Lakewood and featuring home highlights such as the Comet Christmas Classic and a special home In-School event on Senior Night against Mt. Gilead and North Union. The Comets are particularly looking forward to showcasing their talent at the Comet Classic and the In School Dual, which are anticipated to be key highlights of the season. The Elgin High School Comets continue to train rigorously preparing to uphold their historic wrestling legacy while aiming for new heights in the upcoming competitions.
