INDIANAPOLIS — Goshen (IN) picked up one of its most impressive results of the season Friday afternoon, edging No. 15 Marian (IN) 4–3 in a nonconference dual at the Healthplex behind clutch three-set singles wins and strong doubles play.

The Maple Leafs, receiving votes in the national rankings, improved to 6–6 by taking two of three doubles courts and splitting the six singles matches. Garrett Stoltzfus and Filippo Gallo were central to the outcome, each going 2–0 on the day with a doubles win and a three-set singles victory that gave Goshen the margin it needed over the Knights, who dropped to 8–6.

Goshen set the tone in doubles, securing the critical team point with authoritative performances at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Stoltzfus and Iago Ciucio swept No. 2 doubles 6–0, while the tandem of Paulo Santiago and Gallo earned a 6–3 win on court three. Marian answered at the top line, where James Ashworth and Mateo Guerin topped Timo Novak and Denis Stanculov 6–3 at No. 1 doubles, but the Maple Leafs carried a 1–0 advantage into singles.

In singles, the Knights quickly pushed back behind their nationally ranked lineup. Ashworth leveled the team score with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, defeating Ciucio 6–4, 6–4. Novak responded for Goshen at No. 2, controlling his match 6–1, 6–4 to restore the Maple Leafs’ lead. Marian kept the pressure on at the lower end of the lineup, with Marcos Ramos Cabrera earning a 6–4, 6–2 result over Mahmut Emre Gurmeric at No. 4 singles and Juan Garcia-Tunon adding a 6–2, 6–4 decision at No. 6.

With the dual tight throughout, Stoltzfus delivered one of the pivotal points at No. 3 singles. After splitting the first two sets, he pulled away late in the third to claim a 6–4, 4–6, 6–3 win and push Goshen closer to the upset. Gallo then provided the decisive blow at No. 5 singles, outlasting his opponent 6–1, 1–6, 6–4 in another three-set battle that sealed the Maple Leafs’ fourth team point and the overall 4–3 victory.

Stoltzfus finished the day with wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, while Gallo matched that 2–0 mark through his triumphs at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles. Ashworth turned in a strong performance for Marian with victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but the Knights’ efforts at the top of the lineup were not enough to overcome Goshen’s depth and efficiency through the middle courts.

By taking three of six singles matches and two of three in doubles, Goshen handed Marian a narrow defeat and added a ranked opponent to its list of results. The Maple Leafs now carry their 4–3 win and .500 overall record into the heart of the spring slate with momentum from a road upset and multiple pressure-point performances up and down the lineup.
