Ceja Sparks Grant Union’s 2-0 Road Win Over Irrigon
Abril Ceja broke through on a breakaway for the decisive opening goal, then assisted on the insurance score as Grant Union defeated Irrigon 2-0 on Saturday at Irrigon High School. The Prospectors paired their timely attack with a complete defensive effort to earn the shutout.
Ceja created the breakthrough when she got behind the Irrigon defense and finished the one-on-one opportunity. Her goal gave Grant Union the advantage and rewarded a coordinated effort from a lineup that worked together, supported the ball and maintained its shape throughout the match.
Grant Union doubled the lead when Ceja delivered a cross to Adie Judd, who converted for the Prospectors’ second goal. The sequence completed a productive performance for Ceja, who contributed directly to both goals with one score and one assist.
Cosette Klusmier and Hannah McKinley played critical roles in protecting the lead, helping Grant Union contain Irrigon and limit dangerous chances. When Irrigon did threaten, goalkeeper Naomi Blood made several quality saves to preserve the clean sheet. The defensive work reflected a full-team commitment, with the Prospectors supporting one another across the field.
The victory carried added significance because the Irrigon field was also the site of Grant Union’s first win during the program’s inaugural season three years ago. The Prospectors will return home to face Four Rivers at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026,.
