Grant Union Alumni Game Brings Generations of Prospectors Together
What an incredible day for Grant Union High School and the Prospector community! Our alumni game brought generations together, filling the field and stands with shared memories, renewed friendships and plenty of school pride. More than 300 community members attended, including over 80 alumni who returned to celebrate the program and the people who have helped shape it.
A total of 52 alumni played in the game or joined the action on the field. Participants ranged from members of the Class of 1985 to current players, creating a special connection across four decades of Grant Union history. Alumni traveled from across the United States to take part, including one who made the trip from Washington, D.C. And in keeping with the spirit of a true alumni game, no pitching machine was used!
One of the day's memorable moments came when Coach Art threw out the first pitch. The event also gave Coach Art the chance to reconnect with numerous former players and longtime community members, bringing back stories and relationships built through years of competition and commitment.
The gathering also included a heartfelt jersey presentation to the families of players who competed under Coach Thunell and have since passed away. It was a moving way to honor their place in our program and remind everyone that the bonds created at Grant Union extend far beyond the playing field.
We offer a big thank-you to Jack Holpuch, Jake Taylor and Gary Hopf for organizing such a memorable event. We also thank Levi Manitsas for serving as an outstanding DJ and the voice of the day. Most of all, thank you to every alumnus, player, family member and supporter who came together to make this celebration a proud day for the Prospectors.
