Grant Union A Team Sweeps Baker City in Junior High Volleyball Matchup

Dennise Blevins | Grant Union High School | Sep 8, 2026

Grant Union’s A team completed a three-set sweep of Baker City, winning 25-23, 27-25 and 15-7 on Friday at Baker City. The Prospectors’ B team fell 2-1, while the C team lost four sets as Grant Union’s junior high players competed with consistent effort and a positive approach throughout the matchup.

The A team delivered Grant Union’s strongest result, prevailing 3-0 in a match that opened with two closely contested sets. The Prospectors secured the first set 25-23, then responded in another tight finish to win the second 27-25. Grant Union carried that momentum into the final set, pulling away for a 15-7 victory to finish the sweep.

Grant Union’s B team also started well, taking the opening set 25-21. Baker City answered with a 25-22 win in the second, forcing a deciding third set. The Prospectors remained within reach but could not complete the match victory as Baker City took the finale 15-11 and earned a 2-1 decision.

The C team faced a difficult start against Baker City, dropping the first three sets 25-9, 25-15 and 25-8. Grant Union continued to hustle and produced its best performance in the fourth set, pushing Baker City before falling 25-21. That late improvement reflected the group’s ability to stay engaged despite the earlier results.

Serving consistency proved to be a challenge for the B and C teams, limiting their ability to sustain rallies and apply pressure. Even so, the Prospectors stayed positive, played hard and maintained their enthusiasm through every set. With no individual statistics recorded, Grant Union’s performance was defined by its collective effort, especially the A team’s composure in two close finishes and the C team’s stronger closing set.
