Grant Union B Team Sweeps Prairie City as Prospectors Show Progress
Grant Union’s B Team swept Prairie City in three sets, 25-14, 25-23, 19-17, to lead a competitive day for the Prospectors. The B Team established control with an 11-point win in the opening set, then handled tighter finishes in the final two sets to secure the victory.
After Prairie City pushed Grant Union throughout the second set, the Prospectors closed out a 25-23 win to take a commanding advantage. The third set was even closer, but the B Team delivered the final points needed for a 19-17 victory. Winning two sets by two points showed the group’s ability to execute with little margin for error.
The A Team opened with a 25-21 win before Prairie City turned the match around. Grant Union dropped the second set 25-21 and then came up short 15-12 in the decisive third set. The C Team also battled through three sets, falling 25-22, 25-20 and 15-11. Although the A and C teams did not earn match victories, both produced stretches on which the Prospectors can build.
Tenley Parsons earned Athlete of the Week honors following the Prairie City competition. Depart filled the A Team setter role, while Prairie City supplied extended serving runs across the three sets and finished with 14 points served. John Day also brought a positive, vocal presence to the court, encouraged teammates and provided consistent passing.
That consistency carried into the offense, where John Day placed sets in positions that allowed Grant Union’s hitters to attack. The combination of serving pressure, passing and communication gave the Prospectors productive moments throughout the match, even when Prairie City was able to close the final two sets against the A Team.
Grant Union returned to practice the following day and focused on correcting the small details exposed during the match. The Prospectors will next play away against TBD at 12 a.m. PDT Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026.
