CULVER, Ore. - Grant Union’s defense held Culver to 12 first-half points, but the Bulldogs broke the game open after halftime and defeated the Prospectors 38-0 on Friday night at Culver High School. Culver scored 26 points in the second half, turning a competitive defensive effort into a decisive nonleague victory.

The Prospectors’ defense provided the strongest stretch of the night. Grant Union limited a capable Culver offense throughout the first half, keeping the margin at 12-0 and giving the team a chance despite its offensive difficulties. The game began under clear skies with a temperature of 70 degrees.

Grant Union struggled to move the ball consistently while playing without two offensive starters, quarterback Rowdy Wilson and wide receiver Garrett Ashley. The Prospectors used three backup quarterbacks, and each produced positive plays, but the offense could not string enough of them together to sustain drives or reach the end zone.

Turnovers and false starts also disrupted Grant Union’s possessions, preventing the offense from building rhythm and placing additional pressure on the defense. Culver capitalized after halftime, pulling away after the Prospectors had kept the game within two scores through the opening two quarters.

Grant Union will use its bye-week work to get healthier and correct the smaller mistakes that can end promising drives. The defense is also beginning its preparation for a future matchup with Weston-McEwen next weej.
