Grant Union JV Falls in Three Sets at Dayville
JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Grant Union High School’s junior varsity volleyball team lost 3-0 to Dayville / Monument / Long Creek on Tuesday, September 29, in Dayville. The Prospectors faced a varsity opponent in the nonleague match and struggled with serve receive and finishing their attacks. Dayville / Monument / Long Creek won all three sets to complete the sweep.
Serve receive was one of the central challenges for Grant Union. The Prospectors had difficulty handling the opposing serves, a phase of play that establishes the first contact and helps set up an offense. Against varsity competition, that challenge was paired with trouble putting the ball away when Grant Union attacked. Those two areas defined the Prospectors’ performance in the three-set loss.
The matchup placed Grant Union’s JV players against the Dayville / Monument / Long Creek varsity rather than another junior varsity squad. The Prospectors were unable to claim a set, with the result leaving serve reception and attack execution as concrete areas to address. Receiving serves and converting offensive chances are connected parts of building a rally, and both presented difficulties for Grant Union in this contest.
Grant Union’s JV squad will face Dayville / Monument / Long Creek again on Tuesday, Oct. 6, giving the teams a second meeting one week after the sweep. That rematch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Grant Union.
