Grant Union Soccer Opens Fourth Season With Leadership and Promise

We are excited to begin our fourth season together in the Grant Union High School soccer program. This season marks an important milestone for our Prospectors, as our six seniors are the first group to have played all four years since the program was created in 2023. Their experience, commitment and leadership reflect how far GU soccer has come in a short time.

Our returning senior group includes Naomi Blood, Shreya Vyas, Eliza Bailey, Keira Stiner, Abril Ceja and Hannah McKinley. We look forward to seeing what our seniors and returning juniors bring to the field throughout the season. We are also proud to welcome a hardworking group of freshmen who have jumped right in and are learning the sport while embracing the demands of varsity competition.

Our first home game against Nyssa offered an encouraging look at the team’s potential, even though we lost 7-1. We put together several strong passing combinations and held possession for a large portion of the game. The match also provided valuable experience for our new players and showed us where we need to improve our positioning.

Several Prospectors delivered notable performances. Keira Stiner scored our goal on a free kick, while freshman Chloe Hardiman worked tirelessly in center midfield, a position that demands constant movement and sprinting. Hannah McKinley provided leadership along the back line and intercepted several runs down the sideline. Cosette Klusmier’s speed in defense helped slow Nyssa’s scoring run, and Adie Judd adapted impressively while moving between several positions.

After graduating several seniors from last year’s back line, our focus is on rebuilding the defense, strengthening our positioning and preparing players to contribute in multiple roles. There is plenty of work ahead, but the leadership of our seniors, the experience of our juniors and the enthusiasm of our freshmen give us many reasons to be excited about this fourth season of Prospector soccer.
