Junior High Cross Country Opens Season With Strong Start

Our Grant Union junior high cross country team opened its season Aug. 17 with an energetic week of running at the 7th Street complex. Through joint team runs and individual trials, our athletes began assessing their abilities, establishing a foundation for the season and building camaraderie. The warm conditions also brought a memorable reward, as the team ended one practice by cooling off together at the splash pad.

This season marks the beginning of a rebuilding phase for our junior high program. Many of last year’s eighth-grade runners have advanced to the high school team, leaving us with a smaller group. Even with fewer athletes, our returning runners have stepped forward with enthusiasm and determination.

Several second- and third-year runners are already looking strong and beginning the season with their best foot forward. We are also excited about our new runners, who have shown encouraging potential and could enjoy lasting success in the sport. Together, the veterans and newcomers are creating a supportive team environment centered on steady improvement.

During the opening part of the season, we will focus on proper running form, injury prevention and building endurance. Just as importantly, we want every athlete to develop respect for running while having fun with teammates. We are proud of the effort our runners have shown so far and look forward to watching this young Prospectors team grow throughout the season.
