Junior High Prospectors Battle Crane in Close 30-26 Loss

Dennise Blevins | Grant Union High School | Oct 12, 2026

Our Grant Union High School junior high football team played well together in a close 30-26 loss to Crane on Thursday, Oct. 8, in Crane. We had a chance to win at the end. The four-point finish made this a tough result for our Prospectors despite their collective effort.

Coyle Vancleave started at quarterback for us, reading Crane’s defense and making many of the right decisions. That decision-making was an important part of our offensive performance, with Vancleave handling the responsibility of assessing the defense. Rahlen Rose contributed multiple catches, giving our passing game another individual performance to recognize alongside the work at quarterback.

Cooper Cobb contributed on both sides of the ball, scoring multiple touchdowns and recording an interception. Cobb’s scoring helped us challenge Crane, while the interception added a defensive takeaway to the effort. Those contributions gave our team production beyond the passing-game work of Vancleave and Rose.

The difference came down in part to two-point conversions, where better execution could have changed the outcome. In a game decided by four points, those chances carried particular weight: converting two additional attempts would have erased that margin. Our players learned a lot from this contest, with conversion execution standing out as a concrete lesson from the loss.
