Junior High Prospectors Roll to 58-0 Win Over Elgin
Our Grant Union High School junior high football team delivered a big road win Oct. 13, defeating the Elgin Huskies 58-0 in Elgin. The Prospectors put up 30 points in the first quarter. That opening burst accounted for more than half of our scoring for the game, giving the team a commanding early lead while our defense kept the Huskies off the scoreboard.
Jack Fisher led the way with three touchdowns, but the scoring stretched well beyond one player. Nearly all of our skill-position players reached the end zone during the victory. With touchdowns coming from so many contributors, the Prospectors paired an individual standout performance with scoring production across the offense.
The quarterback position also featured several contributors. Mikey Thunell took snaps at quarterback along with Coyle VanCleave and Hank Giffin, giving three players time directing our offense during the win. Their participation was another part of a game in which the Prospectors had multiple players involved at key offensive positions.
Our running backs contributed to the touchdown total as well. Gene Fisher scored on a touchdown run, adding another name to the scoring effort. Micheal Law also played running back and reached the end zone in the third quarter, extending the Prospectors’ offensive production into the second half.
