Junior High Prospectors Show Fight Against Strong Heppner Team

Our Grant Union junior high football team welcomed Heppner to Grant Union High School on Thursday, Sept. 10, for a challenging matchup against a strong, well-coached opponent. Heppner held a 32-0 advantage after four quarters and finished with a 38-6 victory, but our Prospectors continued competing and produced a memorable touchdown during the fifth quarter.

That highlight began when Coyle Van cleave threw a pass to Weston Lieuallen. After making the catch, Lieuallen took the ball about 50 yards for a touchdown, giving Grant Union an exciting scoring play and rewarding the team’s effort. The long connection was a bright moment for our players, families and supporters at Grant Union High School.

Cooper Cobb also delivered a determined performance on the ground. Cobb ran hard throughout the game and finished with about 100 rushing yards against a tough Heppner defense. His ability to keep moving the football reflected the persistence our Prospectors showed, even while facing a difficult score and a quality opponent.

We are proud of the way our junior high players kept battling, supported one another and continued working through the fifth quarter. Games against strong competition provide important experience, and Thursday’s effort included several positives our team can build on. Thank you to everyone who supported the Prospectors and celebrated the determination behind Grant Union’s 50-yard touchdown connection.
