Prospectors Answer Halftime Deficit With Two-Goal Second Half at Echo

Grant Union could not overcome a three-goal halftime deficit Thursday, falling 5-2 to Echo/Stanfield at Echo High School despite an assertive second-half response. Echo/Stanfield's 3-0 advantage at the break proved decisive, but the Prospectors regrouped to score twice and play their opponent even over the final 40 minutes.

Adie Judd put Grant Union on the scoreboard with the team's first goal, finishing an attacking move set up by Abril Ceja. The assist reflected the improved teamwork the Prospectors showed after halftime as they supported each other, connected passes and created more pressure in the attacking third.

Keira Stiner supplied Grant Union's second goal with a well-struck free kick. Stiner sent the ball over the Echo/Stanfield defensive line and into the top of the net, giving the Prospectors another reward for their stronger second-half play. The goal helped Grant Union match Echo/Stanfield 2-2 in the second half after being held scoreless before the break.

Cosette Klusmier also delivered an important performance for the Prospectors on defense. Her speed and determination helped produce several key stops as Grant Union worked to limit Echo/Stanfield's chances and stay organized. Those defensive efforts, combined with the team's improved cohesion, allowed the Prospectors to respond rather than let the difficult first half define the match.

Grant Union will look to carry that second-half progress into its next road match against Irrigon at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026. The two-goal response at Echo High School gave the Prospectors a concrete foundation to build on as they continue league play.
