Prospectors Build Momentum With Strong Start and Team-First Effort

Dennise Blevins | Grant Union High School | Sep 1, 2026

Grant Union football is starting the season with plenty to celebrate. Our varsity Prospectors opened Week 0 with an impressive 50-6 victory over PC, providing an early reward for the hard work, improved attitude and stronger team unity we have seen throughout practice. The energy and effort within the program have taken a big step forward this year.

A major focus for our varsity team has been tackling and pursuing the football together, with the goal of getting nine hats to the ball. That team-first approach reflects the progress our players are making in every part of the program. After narrowly missing the playoffs last season, the Prospectors have made reaching the postseason a shared goal, and each practice and game is another chance to move closer to it.

Our five seniors have played an important role in setting that standard. They are great leaders and teammates who help bring the group together, model the right attitude and encourage strong effort from those around them. We look forward to recognizing these seniors and celebrate what they mean to Grant Union football.

The younger Prospectors also delivered a strong performance Monday, earning a 34-8 JV victory over Stanfield. Our freshmen played very well, and several players stepped into unfamiliar positions because of roster numbers and quarter limitations. They responded with confidence and did their jobs for the team.

Next, our varsity group is looking forward to a hard-fought matchup with Gold Beach. A strong showing would add valuable confidence as the Prospectors continue pursuing their goals together.
