Prospectors Earn Five-Set Win, Rally Around McQuown at DIG PINK
JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Grant Union High School earned a hard-fought 3-2 volleyball victory against Stanfield on Friday, October 9, opening a weekend of back-to-back five-set matches. The Prospectors returned home to face Irrigon in their annual DIG PINK game on Saturday, October 10.
Friday’s road victory required Grant Union to go the distance, with the deciding fifth set settling the contest against Stanfield. The Prospectors brought an aggressive approach to their offense throughout the weekend, creating opportunities through their willingness to attack. That approach also produced additional errors, leaving execution and reducing mistakes as areas to address while maintaining the attacking style that helped them compete.
Saturday’s matchup with Irrigon at Grant Union High School brought another demanding test, stretching to five sets after the previous day’s extended contest. Across the two matches, the Prospectors played 10 sets, demonstrating their ability to compete through long, challenging games. The home match also gave supporters a chance to gather for a cause closely connected to the team.
The DIG PINK fundraiser supported Mandie McQuown, as she continues her fight against breast cancer. Supporters contributed to the annual event alongside Saturday’s volleyball action, linking the team’s weekend on the court with direct assistance for a member of its coaching staff. All money raised went to McQuown.
