Prospectors Fall to Heppner 3-0 After Five-Set Win Over Stanfield
JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Grant Union High School fell to Heppner 3-0 on Saturday, October 3, at Heppner High School, closing a weekend of league volleyball that also featured a hard-fought home victory. The Prospectors split their two matches, winning a five-set battle against Stanfield on Friday before dropping Saturday’s road contest.
Friday’s 3-2 victory gave Grant Union a result worth celebrating in front of its home crowd. The Prospectors worked through a match that required all five sets to settle, emerging with a league win before making the trip to Heppner the following day.
Haven delivered a standout attacking performance against Stanfield, recording 19 kills in the victory. That production was a highlight of the Prospectors’ winning effort and provided an individual achievement to celebrate alongside the team’s five-set result. Saturday brought a different outcome, with Heppner taking all three sets.
Grant Union finished the weekend fourth in the league standings. The split left the Prospectors with both a hard-earned victory and a road defeat as they prepare for another stretch of volleyball. Upcoming matches against Stanfield and Irrigon will give the team another busy weekend, with the Stanfield matchup following Friday’s closely contested meeting.
Saturday, October 10, will also feature Grant Union’s DIG PINK home game, bringing an extra reason for fans to gather in the gym and support the Prospectors.
