Prospectors Rally From Two Goals Down to Earn 2-2 Draw With Four Rivers

Grant Union delivered a determined comeback under the lights Sept. 17, erasing a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Four Rivers at Grant Union High School. Keira Stiner completed the rally in the final 11 minutes, calmly driving a penalty kick into the back of the net after a Four Rivers handball in the penalty area.

The league match began only after a 2 1/2-hour lightning delay, which pushed the action into the evening. An on-and-off drizzle added another challenge once play started, but the Prospectors continued working after the Falcons scored the opening two goals. Abril Ceja gave Grant Union its breakthrough, finishing a chance created by Chloe Hardiman's assist to cut the deficit to one.

Grant Union kept pressing for the equalizer, with Eliza Bailey and Shreya Vyas producing dangerous breakaways down the line. Their energy helped stretch the Four Rivers defense and kept the Prospectors moving forward until the late handball opened the door for Stiner's tying penalty kick.

The long weather delay also produced a memorable display of sportsmanship. The Prospectors and Falcons spent about two hours together in the Grant Union Commons while waiting for the lightning to pass, then emerged to compete through the rain in a spirited match that ended level.

Grant Union returned home Sept. 19 and fell 6-0 to Umatilla, but Cosette Klusmier, Aleilee Allen and Eliza Baileyworked tirelessly along the back line against sustained pressure. Two of Umatilla's six goals came from penalty kicks. The Prospectors will now prepare for an away rematch with Four Rivers at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026.
