Prospectors Roll Past Riverside 72-16 Behind Balanced Scoring
JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Grant Union High School powered past Riverside 72-16 at home Friday, Oct. 2, with Fletcher Grove’s two defensive scores helping fuel the Prospectors’ decisive victory. Contributions across the lineup made it a productive night for the varsity players and the younger teammates who entered near the end of the second quarter.
Garrett Ashley and Landyn Beil each recorded two offensive touchdowns, giving Grant Union multiple scoring threats. Rowdy Wilson and Jack Knowles added a touchdown apiece. Those four players accounted for six touchdowns, spreading the scoring load rather than leaving the offense dependent on a single contributor.
Grove supplied another dimension with his two defensive touchdowns, putting points on the board when Riverside had possession. His scoring contributions complemented the offense’s output and stood out in a game the Prospectors finished with a 56-point margin.
The younger players began entering late in the second quarter and contributed on both sides of the ball. Jax Huerta threw a touchdown pass, Jase Whatley recorded a receiving touchdown, and Jhett Williams also reached the end zone. Their production extended the list of Grant Union scorers and gave the younger group concrete accomplishments in varsity action.
Danner May also played well defensively after entering, adding to a strong showing from the younger players. With established contributors and substitutes both delivering, the Prospectors finished with scoring contributions from eight players.
