Prospectors Serve Without an Error in Three-Set Loss to Weston-McEwen
JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Grant Union High School fell 3-0 to Weston-McEwen in a home volleyball match Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Prospectors faced the second-ranked team in league play. Despite the straight-set loss, Grant Union delivered a positive performance from the service line to carry into the final stretch of its league schedule.
The Prospectors finished with a 100% serving percentage, putting every serve in play throughout the three sets. That accuracy stood out against a highly ranked league opponent, even as Grant Union was unable to take a set. Serving gave the Prospectors a concrete success on a night when the result went Weston-McEwen’s way.
Grant Union’s practice work this week has centered on serve receive and making more of the opportunities that follow a good pass. The emphasis is not simply on returning the ball across the net. The Prospectors are working to turn those passes into aggressive attacks that can finish rallies, connecting the first contact with a more decisive offensive response.
Free-ball opportunities are another part of that focus. Grant Union wants to capitalize when an opponent sends the ball over without an attack, using that chance to build an attack of its own. With the closing stretch of league play approaching, the Prospectors are continuing to work on consistency in serve receive and converting good passes and free balls into put-away attacks.
