JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Seven graduating seniors helped Grant Union High School build its soccer program through hard work, leadership and contributions across the field. Their departures leave the Prospectors preparing to develop new players around three seasoned juniors. The senior class included players who had been with the program since its start four years ago, along with newcomers who quickly found ways to contribute.

Abril Ceja, a four-year player and team captain, led Abril Ceja-four in goals each year and added seven goals and several assists this season. The striker paired that production with a willingness to help teammates and coaches.

Fellow four-year player Keira Stiner-four, a three-year captain, scored six goals while covering ground as a box-to-box midfielder. Stiner supported defensive work and attacking runs, and the Prospectors relied on her strong foot for corner kicks and free kicks.

Captain Eliza Bailey, another four-year player, helped connect the defense and attack by finding open space and dropping back to provide passing options. Her drives and assists supported the offense throughout the season. Hannah McKinley spent most of her four-year career as a fearless, dependable defender, but a move forward showcased her versatility. She scored two critical goals in Grant Union's last home game.

Naomi Blood spent most of her two seasons in goal, bringing a calm presence while stopping dangerous scoring attempts. She played more in the field later this season, giving the Prospectors another option with a strong left foot.

Bristol Bailey joined late in the season without previous high school soccer experience and quickly adapted to defense. Her toughness and cooperation with the back line helped prevent opposing goals.

Shreya Vyas also had been part of the program since its beginning four years ago. An effective wing, she worked with the forwards and midfielders around her while bringing kindness and an upbeat personality to the team. Together, the seven seniors helped shape a group that worked hard for one another and developed as a unit.

Recruitment and training new players will be priorities in the coming year, with three experienced juniors positioned to take on leadership responsibilities and developing talent moving up through the program.
