The Master’s Builds Big First-Day Lead at 2026 GSAC Men’s Swimming Championship

The Master’s University used depth and multiple individual victories to build its lead one Day One at the 2026 GSAC Men’s Swimming Championship on Friday at the Soka Aquatic Center. The Mustangs piled up 177 points across two sessions to open an advantage over Arizona Christian, which sits second with 100.5 points. College of Idaho is third with 85, followed by host Soka (51), OUAZ (44.5) and Simpson (29) heading into Saturday’s final day.

The Master’s set the tone early and never relinquished momentum, sweeping all three relays on the opening day and stacking top-two finishes across multiple events. The Mustangs squads claimed the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:24.77, the 400-yard medley relay in 3:25.02 and closed the night with a 1:33.12 win in the 200-yard medley relay. Those relay sweeps provided key point swings in a championship format where relay results often shape the team standings.

Individually, The Master’s was led by standout performances from distance and IM specialists. Izaiah Trevino-Lozano delivered a two-win day, first taking the 500-yard freestyle in 4:32.77 before returning in the evening to win the 100-yard butterfly in 48.92. IM ace Evan Nail matched that double-victory output by capturing the 200-yard individual medley in 1:49.52 and later extending his dominance in the 400-yard IM with a winning time of 3:56.15. Their wins, combined with strong finishes from teammates, gave The Master’s a consistent scoring presence in nearly every race.

Sprint and stroke events added further separation for the Mustangs. Charley Sears led a strong mid-distance group by winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.69, while also contributing in the individual medley ranks. In the backstroke, Michael Loughboro added another victory to the Mustangs’ tally, touching first in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.64. With multiple swimmers from The Master’s regularly appearing on the podium, the team converted individual highlights into a sizable lead on the scoreboard.

Arizona Christian, however, made its presence felt in the sprint lanes to secure second place after the opening day. The Firestorm picked up their first men’s victory of the meet when Isaiah Porritt won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.13, setting the tone for ACU’s sprint corps. Porritt also reached the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 57.44 effort, helping Arizona Christian stay clear of College of Idaho in the team race. ACU added several additional finalists and podium finishes in sprint and IM events to close the day at 100.5 points.

College of Idaho was highlighted by breaststroke specialist Cahill Robinson, who won the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.90 and added a strong 1:59.06 performance in the 200-yard IM. His win anchored the Yotes’ push into third place. Soka , OUAZ and Simpson all placed swimmers into championship and consolation heats, keeping the middle and lower portions of the team standings competitive.

With The Master’s the advantage after Day One, the focus shifts to whether the Mustangs can close out the team title when racing resumes Saturday at 9:25 a.m. at the Soka Aquatic Center. Arizona Christian and College of Idaho remain in position to challenge for podium places in the final standings, while the remaining programs will look to climb the table. The second and final day of the GSAC Men’s Swimming Championship is expected to feature more tight races as teams chase points and conference hardware.
