The Master’s University Claims 2026 GSAC Women’s Swimming Title Behind Depth, Key Event Wins

The Master’s University used depth, a string of 1–2 finishes and a closing relay victory to capture the 2026 GSAC Women’s Swimming Championship on Saturday at the Soka Aquatics Center. The Mustangs totaled 296 points to pull away from runner-up Arizona Christian University, which finished with 174. College of Idaho (71), host Soka University (64), Ottawa University of Arizona (39) and Simpson University (2) rounded out the team standings.

The meet turned decisively in The Master’s favor through the middle and late events, where the Mustangs repeatedly stacked the top of the podium. They highlighted the session with a winning 400-yard freestyle relay, as the TMU “A” squad of Megan Sutanto, Katherine Dyer, Clara Patterson and Sears clocked 3:25.53. That performance capped the championship meet and added a final surge of points to secure the title.

Individually, Dyer and Patterson led the charge for The Master’s. Dyer won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.37, anchoring a TMU 1–2 finish that underscored the team’s dominance in the stroke events. Patterson controlled the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.96, with teammate Trudy Patterson taking second to deliver another key 1–2 result in the team race. Both swimmers also contributed to the winning 400 freestyle relay, reinforcing their value across multiple events.

Sutanto added a crucial sprint victory for the Mustangs, taking the 100-yard freestyle in 51.87. Her performance helped TMU maintain separation at the top of the standings as the meet moved into its final sessions. Combined with strong relay legs and the team’s consistent presence in championship finals, Sutanto’s win ensured The Master’s kept control of the meet’s momentum.

Arizona Christian produced several standout swims in the runner-up effort, highlighted by distance and butterfly wins. Robin Abrams opened ACU’s scoring punch in the 1650-yard freestyle, winning the grueling event in 19:06.59 and leading a multi-swimmer podium presence for the Firestorm in distance free. Later, Hannah Jyawook added another individual title in the 200-yard butterfly, touching first in 2:07.24 to secure a significant points haul that helped Arizona Christian lock in second place overall.

Championship honors reflected The Master’s dominance and emerging depth. Dyer was named Swimmer of the Year after her breaststroke win and relay contribution, while Clara Patterson swept Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year accolades on the strength of her backstroke title and relay performance. Curren Bates was recognized as Coach of the Year after guiding the Mustangs to the top of the GSAC standings with balanced scoring across strokes, distances and relays.

With The Master’s University separating itself at the top, the remainder of the field battled for position as College of Idaho, Soka and Ottawa each added depth points behind the two front-runners. As the GSAC season turns toward national-level competition, TMU’s combination of star power, relay strength and underclassmen impact positions the Mustangs as a contender beyond the conference stage, while Arizona Christian’s distance and butterfly core provides a strong foundation for future championship runs.
