Coljohn’s Late Reverse Lifts Holy Name Past NDCL on National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Claire Coljohn’s reverse layup with 2.8 seconds remaining capped a tense fourth quarter and lifted Holy Name to a 57-55 win over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Wednesday night at home. The conference matchup, played on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, ended in dramatic fashion as Holy Name avoided overtime for the second straight meeting between the teams.
The night began with Holy Name recognizing its girls programs in softball, soccer, lacrosse, swimming and cheer as part of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. On the court, the game quickly turned into a grind. NDCL opened with an 8-0 run, forcing Holy Name to settle in after the slow start. The hosts responded with composure, closing the first quarter on a surge to edge in front by one after eight minutes and setting the tone for what became a back-and-forth contest.
Holy Name entered the matchup coming off its first loss in 10 games after a nine-game winning streak was snapped by Medina. The response was fueled largely by Coljohn, who finished with 28 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals in a complete two-way effort. She repeatedly attacked the lane, created for teammates and disrupted NDCL’s offense at the defensive end, keeping Holy Name within striking distance whenever NDCL threatened to pull away.
Jordan Cremona added a crucial secondary scoring punch with 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. In what felt like a replay of the previous meeting with NDCL—when Holy Name needed overtime to secure the win—the teams traded leads deep into the fourth quarter. With four minutes left and Holy Name trailing by one, Coljohn drove and dished to Cremona for a traditional three-point play. Cremona's converted free throw put Holy Name ahead by two, then moments later Coljohn found her again in transition for a layup that stretched the margin to four.
NDCL answered, and over the next three minutes the teams traded baskets, with neither side able to create separation. In a tied game in the final seconds, Mihalik secured an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and immediately called timeout with six seconds left, giving Holy Name one final possession to win in regulation instead of heading to another overtime.
Out of the timeout, Holy Name executed cleanly. Treer inbounded the ball to Coljohn, who drove the baseline and finished a reverse layup with 2.8 seconds remaining to put Holy Name up 57-55. NDCL had no answer on the ensuing possession, sealing the two-point victory.
The win gave Holy Name a bounce-back result after the Medina loss and another tight finish in a budding rivalry with NDCL. On a night dedicated to celebrating girls and women in sports, Holy Name’s performance—highlighted by Coljohn’s scoring burst, Cremona’s timely plays and a collective defensive effort—provided an on-court example of resilience and poise in a high-pressure setting.
JV also claimed a victory over NDCL making it a program sweep for the evening. With the win the JV team is now 16-1!
