Holy Name Green Wave Volleyball Team Secures Victory in District Semi Final
In a great display of volleyball, the Holy Name Green Wave secured a sweeping victory over the Perry Pirates in the District Semi Final on Thursday October 23rd, at Woodridge High School. The Green Wave excelled throughout the event, culminating in a dominant 3-0 win. From the opening serve, Holy Name set the pace with a commanding first set win of 25-13. Although Perry fought back in the second set, Holy Name managed to maintain their lead, narrowly clinching it 25-22. The third set saw Holy Name reinforcing their superiority with a 25-18 finish, ensuring their spot in the District Final. Key players significantly contributed to this pivotal win; Jennevieve Afrates led the charge with an impressive 21 kills, Cassie Bower orchestrated the offense with 41 assists, and Hayden Wells provided formidable defense with 21 digs. Avery Preisel also stood out by serving 16 points, further highlighting the team's skill set. Reflecting on the series, Coach Miocinovic expressed immense pride in the team's performance. "Needless to say I am very proud of the girls. We have played tough competition all season that prepared us for this postseason," stated Coach Miocinovic. His remarks underline the rigorous preparation and resilience that have characterized the Green Wave's journey this season. Looking ahead, Holy Name is set to face Woodridge this Saturday, October 26, at 1pm at Mentor High School aiming to maintain their momentum and showcase their championship caliber.
