Holy Name Greenwave Triumphs Over Cloverleaf at Joe Tait Classic

Holy Name High School's varsity women's basketball team, recorded a win in a dominating performance at the 5th Annual Joe Tait Classic, defeating Cloverleaf Colts with a final score of 71 to 49. The JV team, preceding the varsity's success, secured their 10th consecutive win, setting the tone for the night. However, the First Year team faced a setback, narrowly losing in overtime. The first quarter was a back and forth affair seeing Claire Coljohn knock down three 3's. A putback at the buzzard by Layla Rudloph pushed the Greenwave lead to 5. The second quarter started out much the same until Sarah Abraham's three-pointer which expanded their lead to 10 and Holy Name never looked back. The Greenwave entered the halftime with a comfortable lead of 43 to 22, demonstrating their offensive strength and cohesive team play. Claire Coljohn, Holy Name's top scorer, brought in 29 points, and contributed 14 rebounds and 6 assists, achieving a double-double. Layla Rudolph also played a pivotal role with 17 points and 5 assists. Jordan Cremona added to the tally with 12 points, including crucial steals that intensified their defensive game. Coljohn and Rudolph were named game MVPs. This victory marks the team's fourth consecutive win, pushing their season record to 6-4. Coach Iwais praised the team's performance noting, 'Last night was a great display of true team basketball. We executed on both ends of the court making the extra pass on offense and playing smothering team defense.' Looking forward, the Holy Name Greenwave is set to play the Beaumont Blue Streaks in a conference match on January 7, 2026, at Beaumont High School, aiming to extend their winning streak.
