In a packed Holy Name gym filled with family, friends and conference rivals, junior guard Claire Coljohn delivered a moment that will be talked about for years. Just 6:19 into the first quarter against North Coast Conference foe Elyria Catholic on Jan. 17, 2025, Coljohn calmly rose up from behind the arc and buried a 3-pointer — the shot that pushed her over the 1,000-point mark for her career. It was a fitting milestone for a player whose game has been built on poise, precision and big-time performances when the lights are brightest.

The symmetry of the moment made it even more special. Claire’s first-ever varsity points as a freshman also came on a 3-pointer from a baseline out-of-bounds play, in that same spot on the floor, back on Nov. 22, 2023 against St. Marten de Porres. From that first shot to her 1,000th point, she has been a constant presence for Holy Name — a three-year varsity starter who has grown from promising underclassman to the engine that drives the program. On this milestone day, she didn’t just reach 1,000; she dominated, finishing with a game-high 26 points and 9 rebounds to power the Green Wave to a crucial conference win over Elyria Catholic.

Claire’s numbers this season tell the story of a complete player. Midway through her junior campaign, she is averaging 19.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.3 assists per game, while converting a remarkable 91 percent of her free throws. Those statistics underscore what opponents already know: she can score from anywhere, rebound like a forward, and disrupt offenses on the defensive end. But for those inside the Holy Name program, the box score is only part of what makes her special. Her consistency, day after day and game after game, has set a standard for what it means to wear Holy Name across the chest.

Coaches and teammates point first to Claire’s relentless work ethic. The 1,000-point milestone is the visible reward for countless unseen hours spent in the gym — early-morning Sunday shooting sessions, extra free throws after practice, and a constant drive to sharpen every part of her game. She is a two-year team captain who leads both with and without the ball in her hands, modeling how to compete the right way. Whether she is knocking down a clutch three, fighting for a rebound or diving on the floor for a loose ball, she plays with a determination that lifts the entire locker room.

As impressive as her career has already been, Claire’s story at Holy Name is far from finished. With nearly half of her junior season and a full senior year still ahead of her, more milestones and school records are well within reach. Yet her focus remains on team success and building something lasting for the program. Each game is another opportunity not just to add to her totals, but to mentor younger players, raise the program’s standard and represent Holy Name with pride.

For Holy Name High School, Claire Coljohn’s 1,000th point is more than a number on a banner. It is a celebration of dedication, leadership and growth — a junior who has already left a mark on the program and still has so much more to give. As the Green Wave continue their conference journey, they do so with a proven leader at the helm, a scorer who thrives in big moments, and a captain whose commitment to getting better every day reflects the very best of Holy Name basketball.
