No. 4 Imbler Hosts No. 13 Sherman County in Homecoming Matchup
No. 4 Imbler High School (5-1) hosts No. 13 Sherman County (4-2) on Friday, Oct. 16, as the Panthers seek to stay near the top of the state rankings and the Huskies pursue consecutive wins for the second time this season. The matchup is Imbler's homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PDT in Imbler.
Quarterback Paden Phelps, running back Carson Yancey and tight end Pedro Rivas lead a balanced Panthers offense. That combination presents Sherman County with a challenge beyond containing a single player: The Huskies must account for both the running game and passing options. For Imbler, maintaining that balance will be a central part of the matchup rather than relying on one avenue to move the ball.
Sherman County counters with running back Ryder Smith and quarterback Gage Simpson as its key offensive players. Their matchup with the Panthers' defensive front will help shape the Huskies' bid for another victory. Establishing the run would give Sherman County a way to challenge Imbler inside, while Simpson provides a separate focus for the Panthers' preparation.
Defensive lineman Ethan Swigert anchors that interior for Imbler, which relies on Swigert to generate inside pressure and create opportunities for linebackers Wyatt Yancey and Ben Herron. How effectively the Huskies handle that pressure will be a key matchup to watch. The Panthers' defensive approach puts the work up front directly alongside the responsibilities of their linebackers against Smith and Simpson.
