Bolon’s first-inning RBI, DeMattio’s shutout lift Indian Valley past Louisville 1-0

Indian Valley made one run stand up Wednesday night, beating Louisville 1-0 in a non-conference softball game in Louisville behind an early RBI from Ashlynn Bolon and a complete-game shutout from L. DeMattio.

The decisive moment came in the first inning, when Bolon drove in the game’s only run to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. Natalie Musser accounted for the run and helped create the opening with an aggressive performance on the bases. Musser scored Indian Valley’s lone run and stole two bases as the Braves did just enough offensively in a game where runs were difficult to find.

From there, DeMattio handled the rest. The Indian Valley starter worked all seven innings, allowed no runs and no earned runs, did not issue a walk and struck out two to earn the win. Louisville collected multiple hits and finished with six runners left on base, but DeMattio kept the Leopards from delivering the tying run at any point in the game.

Indian Valley managed two hits in the win, one each from Bolon and Musser. The Braves finished with one run, two hits and one error, while Louisville was limited to no runs despite outhitting Indian Valley. The box score reflected just how tight the game was, with the Braves scoring once in the first inning and both teams playing scoreless softball over the final six innings.

Louisville also got a strong outing in the circle from Katelynn Miller, who threw a complete game and kept the Leopards within striking distance throughout. Miller allowed one run, none earned, on limited Indian Valley contact while striking out 12. But the first-inning breakthrough proved to be enough for the Braves, who turned a slim edge into a road shutout victory.
