Kelso Edges Mountain View in Five-Set Volleyball Win

KELSO, Wash. - Kelso High School outlasted Mountain View 3-2 in a league volleyball match Thursday, Oct. 8, winning 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 25-27, 15-13. Four Kelso players finished with at least 10 kills.
Kelso took the opening set by six points before Mountain View evened the match with a 25-20 second-set win. Kelso responded with its widest winning margin of the night, taking the third set 25-16 to move within one set of closing out the match.
Mountain View extended the contest by winning the fourth set 27-25, sending the teams into a deciding fifth. Kelso prevailed 15-13 in another two-point finish, securing the victory after the teams split the first four sets. Both of the final two sets were decided by the minimum winning margin.
Maali Amrine led Kelso with 15 kills while adding 15 digs and two blocks. Sheena McGregor contributed 14 kills and 12 digs, and Cora Moore also recorded 14 kills. Charlee Philips supplied another 10 kills and five blocks, giving Kelso contributions both on the attack and at the net.
Skylar Richie recorded nine blocks, while Harlee Barnes anchored the back row with 27 digs. Addie Hislop distributed 29 assists and Bailee Hamergren added 15 assists to support Kelso’s offense. Kelso plays Camas in its next contest Tuesday, Oct. 13.
