Kelso Uses Six-Run Third Inning to Beat Camas 12-9

CAMAS, Wash. - Kelso erased an early deficit with six runs in the third inning and stayed in front the rest of the way, defeating Camas 12-9 in a varsity slow-pitch softball game Wednesday. Kelso’s decisive inning turned a 2-1 deficit into a 7-5 lead and provided enough separation to withstand Camas’ late scoring.

Camas scored twice in the bottom of the first inning before Kelso answered with one run in the second. Kelso then broke through in the third, sending six runs across the plate. Camas responded with three runs in the bottom half, but Kelso carried a 7-5 advantage into the fourth and added one run in each of the next two innings.

Aspyn Gravelle helped lead a balanced Kelso lineup, going 3-for-5 with three singles, one run and one RBI. Liberty Hatfield finished 3-for-4 with three singles, one run and one RBI, while Keisha Hayes also went 3-for-4 with three singles, a run and an RBI. The three players combined for nine hits and helped Kelso sustain pressure throughout the game.

Addy Heuer reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with two singles, two runs, one RBI and a walk. Skylar Sullivan was 2-for-4 with two singles, one run and one RBI. Gabby Muro added a productive performance from second base, finishing 2-for-3 with two singles, one run, three RBIs and a sacrifice fly. Milena Hooper, Kailynn Bolar, Chloe Doherty and Bella Britt each contributed one hit.

Bolar handled all seven innings in the circle for Kelso. She allowed nine runs on 13 hits and two walks while protecting the lead after the third-inning surge. Camas scored twice in the fifth to pull within 9-7, but Kelso answered with two runs in the sixth and entered the final inning ahead 11-7.

Kelso added an insurance run in the top of the seventh before Camas scored twice in the bottom half to produce the final margin. The game was played under clear skies in Camas, with the temperature at 83 degrees at the scheduled 4:30 p.m. start.
