Kelso Opens Football Season at Home Against River Ridge
Kelso High School opens the 2026 football season against River Ridge at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. With both teams playing their first game of the season, the home matchup will offer an early look at how each side handles new roles, opening-night pressure and the adjustments that come with facing a live opponent for the first time.
The programs last met Sept. 12, 2025, when Kelso earned a 30-14 victory at South Sound Stadium. That result provides the recent backdrop for Friday's game, but the start of a new season brings different personnel and new questions. Kelso will look to establish its approach early while limiting the mistakes that can shape a season opener, particularly turnovers, penalties and breakdowns on special teams.
Quarterback Owen Dahl will be a key player to watch as Kelso organizes its offense and works to stay on schedule. The play of linemen Parker Stewart and Zach Williams also will be important to the matchup. Their work at the line of scrimmage can help create time and space for the offense while setting the tone in short-yardage situations. That combination makes the battle up front and Kelso's execution at quarterback two of the central storylines against River Ridge.
Friday's opener begins the process of establishing Kelso's identity for the fall. The team will then turn its attention to its first road game, a matchup at Capital scheduled for 7 p.m. PDT Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.
