Kelso Falls to Ballard 8-2 Despite Three-Hit Games From Heuer and Gravelle
KELSO, Wash. - Kelso High School fell to Ballard 8-2 in varsity slow-pitch softball Saturday, Oct. 3, in Kelso, with a four-run fourth inning providing the decisive separation. Addy Heuer and Aspyn Gravelle each collected three singles for Kelso, but Ballard built a seven-run lead before Kelso scored twice in the fifth.
Ballard opened the scoring with one run in the first inning, then added one apiece in the second and third to take a 3-0 lead. Its four-run fourth extended the advantage to 7-0, putting Kelso in a substantial deficit. That inning accounted for half of Ballard's scoring and proved to be the difference in the game.
Kelso scored both of its runs in the fifth inning, trimming the deficit to 7-2. Heuer and Gravelle each scored once, while Gravelle and Kailynn Bolar each finished with an RBI. Ballard added a run in the sixth to make it 8-2, completing the scoring after Kelso's two-run response.
Heuer finished 3 for 4, matching Gravelle's 3-for-4 performance at the plate. All six of their hits were singles. Bolar went 1 for 2 with a single and a walk, contributing both a hit and another trip on base. Keisha Hayes added a single in four at-bats.
Kelso also received defensive contributions across the infield and behind the plate. Liberty Hatfield recorded seven putouts at first base, while Hayes had six putouts at catcher to accompany her offensive contribution. Gravelle added four putouts at shortstop to her three-hit, one-RBI game.
