Kelso Rallies With Six-Run Fifth for 7-3 Slow-Pitch Win

KELSO, Wash. - Kelso High School erased a two-run deficit with six runs in the fifth inning to defeat Columbia River 7-3 in varsity slow-pitch softball Thursday, Oct. 8. Milena Hooper pitched a complete game for the win.

Neither team scored through the first three innings before Columbia River broke through with two runs in the top of the fourth. Kelso answered in the bottom of the fifth, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 lead with its six-run rally. The visitors scored once in the top of the sixth to pull within three runs, and Kelso added a run in the bottom half to establish the final margin.

Milena Hooper allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk over seven innings, facing 31 batters. She held the visitors scoreless in five of the seven innings, including the seventh to finish the victory.

Keisha Hayes led Kelso's hitters with a 3-for-3 performance, collecting three singles and an RBI. Rosie Deseive added a single and a double in a 2-for-3 outing and drove in one run. Addy Heuer went 2-for-4 with a single and a double, scoring twice, Aspyn Gravelle went 2-for-4 with 2 singles scoring 1 run and an RBI.

Liberty Hatfield supplied two RBIs, the most among Kelso's listed contributors, while going 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Evelyn Lockyear also contributed to the offense, finishing 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI.
