Kelso Uses Eight-Run Fourth to Beat Washougal 15-0

KELSO, Wash. - Kelso High School scored eight runs in the fourth inning to put away Washougal 15-0 in a five-inning, run-rule slow-pitch softball victory Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Washougal. Milena Hooper and Kailynn Bolar combined on a four-hit shutout, while Kelso collected 14 hits and scored in each of the first four innings.
Kelso opened with two runs in the first inning and added one in the second for a 3-0 lead. A four-run third pushed the advantage to 7-0 before the eight-run fourth made it 15-0. That fourth-inning outburst accounted for more than half of Kelso’s scoring and provided the margin for the game to end under the run rule in the fifth.
Hooper earned the pitching win with four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk. Bolar took over in the fifth and allowed no runs or hits to finish the shutout. The two pitchers also led Kelso at the plate, each going 3 for 4 with two singles and a double. Hooper scored twice and drove in two runs, while Bolar scored twice and added one RBI.
Aspyn Gravelle went 2 for 3 with a single and a double, scored two runs and drove in one. Rosie Deseive also finished 2 for 3, collecting two singles, scoring three times and contributing an RBI. Together, Hooper, Bolar, Gravelle and Deseive accounted for 10 hits and nine runs.
Liberty Hatfield, Gabby Muro, Bella Britt and Evelyn Lockyear added one hit apiece, giving Kelso eight players with at least one hit. Hooper, Bolar and Gravelle supplied the team’s three doubles.
